Twins Exercise
A Brilliant Way to Isolate the Benefits of Regular Exercise
Compare genetically identical twins, who eat the same foods, but one exercises regularly and the other doesn’t.
Then analyze their blood and brain scans etc.
The findings are remarkable.
Striatal and prefrontal cortex (subgyral and inferior frontal gyrus) brain gray matter volumes were larger in the nondominant hemisphere in active twins compared with those in inactive co-twins, with a statistical threshold of P < 0.001.
It turned out that these genetically identical twins looked surprisingly different beneath the skin and skull. The sedentary twins had lower endurance capacities, higher body fat percentages, and signs of insulin resistance, signaling the onset of metabolic problems.
